County Clerk Kendall Selected as 2018 Clerk of the Year

Poughkeepsie, New York: Dutchess County Clerk Brad Kendall was honored by his peers as recipient of the 2018 Clerk of the Year Award and one of the three statewide Annual Achievement Awards.  The presentation was made at the New York State Association of County Clerks (NYSACC) conference.  Kendall, currently serving in his twelfth year as the County’s recorder of land records, Clerk of the Supreme and County Courts, and County Commissioner of Motor Vehicles, was hailed for his leadership and business style approach to the operations of the Dutchess County Clerk’s Office.  Known for his pragmatic manner, Kendall has immersed himself in the day to day operations of the Clerk’s Office and can regularly be seen working behind the counters, alongside his staff.  

Over the course of Kendall’s tenure, he has modernized and streamlined operations while generating over $9 million in surplus.  He has been instrumental in instituting several successful programs including Renew Local First, Return the FAVOR, and establishing the acceptance of electronic recording/filing of land and legal documents. Today over 1.3 million land and legal documents are available online offering efficiency, accessibility and cost savings at an estimated $620,000 by 2019 to all who utilize the service.  In late 2017, the “Think Differently” backscanning project in collaboration with Abilities First, a local non-profit agency, commenced to index and digitize documents providing for ease of access to documents and meaningful employment training to the non-traditional workforce.  

Annette Hill, New York City Register and President of NYSACC, stated, “Brad exemplifies what it means to be a good steward.  He has earned the respect of the members within our association.  It was not only fitting and appropriate but well deserved that we acknowledge the efforts he has made working together in providing efficient and excellent service to our constituents.”

Westchester County Clerk Timothy C. Idoni and recipient of the 2017 Clerk of the Year award stated, “Brad’s statewide leadership has moved New York Clerks firmly into the modern technological age.  His ideas have saved taxpayer dollars and created tremendous efficiencies.  He has earned the respect of every member of our association. This is a well-deserved honor.”

Kendall said, “I am humbled and thankful for the recognition from my fellow County Clerks and the New York City Register. It is a privilege to work with dedicated staff members in the Clerk’s Office, the DMV, the Records Management staff and the Department of History along with all the departments of county government. Together we work every day to provide a customer experience worthy of the citizens of Dutchess County.”
